Moving to solid foods.

My daughter is now 10.5 months old and my how time flies. Everyone says this and you're like "yeah, yeah." But seriously it is crazy how fast kids grow and develop. Naomi started crawling and 2 days later she was pulling up on stuff and using the furniture to move around. She's almost walking. She can use a walking toy and walk all over the house, but when we take the toy away and try to let her walk on her own, she sits down and begins crawling. It's funny how she knows she's not ready to do it yet, but she's so close!

The last time I posted I was just going back to work and Naomi was 7 months old and just sitting up on her own. Now we're all into the swing of working/day care and the routine of the crazy. Now Naomi is eating solid foods, pretty much anything really. Which is a little easier and harder all at the same time.

We began giving her the rice cereal and apple sauce. Once she got the hang of how eating works (it's really funny watching a baby eat the rice cereal for the first time. They don't really know what to do with their tongue and how it all works with the spoon. So get out your video camera when you're ready to do this!) we pretty much went right in to making our own baby food. I would buy organic sweet potatoes, squash, apples, pears in the beginning and spend sunday evening steaming them and then pureeing them. We did this for about a month or 2 and then started giving her finger foods. She really loved picking up the piece of food herself and putting them into her mouth. We started with bananas, avocado and then moved on to things like cheese and peas and finally to chicken and meatballs and pasta. Now the doctor did say that you should start with meat because once they're off breast milk they need more iron as they're not getting as much any more...I wish she told us this before we started feeding her all those fruits and veggies first!  Now Naomi want to eat whatever we're eating. So on the weekend we sit down for breakfast and she gets some of our eggs, pancakes, and hash browns!

We're gearing up for Thanksgiving at our house, as we host the whole family and I know Naomi will want to try all the different foods on the table.  Even if it's a new food and she doesn't seem to like it, we'll try again a few times as kids taste buds are constantly changing. So if you've got a fussy eater, keep on giving them the stuff the don't think they like! Eventually they'll eat it! Naomi would not eat pureed peas, but she LOVES whole peas. I think we'll make sure to put peas on the Thanksgiving menu!
